Our son Nikola has officially been at this Dojo for one full year now and is thriving in this environment. Sensei Riley is there to teach Judo and much more with goal setting, a constant reminder of respect, kindness, and overall doing the right thing each day. He is in tune with each child speaking and instructing them with discipline and respect. I just love this place and look forward to each class and my son's development overall.

Pedro's is a remarkable place. I knew that the martial arts, if practiced right, could instill confidence and positivity in my kids, and Pedro's and Sensei Riley have not disappointed. I have three kids at Pedro's: Ages, 9, 8 and 6 and all three have enjoyed the experience, learned a lot and improved in strength, coordination and their belief in what they can accomplish! The classes are run well and on time, and there are plenty of chances for the kids to work toward promotion and participate in tournaments. We are glad we chose Pedro's Judo!

Jacob has just finished his third year of training at Pedro's. We could not be happier with his progress. We started down this path hoping for better school and home behavior, a little more focus and lot more patience and discipline. In three years the change has been remarkable! Our rambunctious, full of energy little boy has grown up- learned how to respect teachers, staff, parents and so much more- while still keeping his silly, charming personality. Sensei Riley is kind, understanding, beyond patient and a true cheerleader! We are so grateful to all the staff for being on this ride with us!

I would absolutely recommend Pedro's Judo Center, we have had such a great experience and look forward to many more years of fun. This has been a great way for my four year old son to improve so many areas like focus and self-control all while being physically active and having fun.

I think my favorite part of this program is that they make this so much more than the classes that you attend at the dojo each week. They make such an effort to involve the entire family, we love the in house tournaments, promotion nights, kids movie nights, and much more. The other mom's and I even got to join in the class with them this morning in honor of Mother's Day for a pink belt, I'm not sure which one of us had more fun!

Halloween Safety Tips

Don’t Get Spooked

Learn How to Stay Safe

Door to door candy stops are a tradition on Halloween night with friends and family. Decked out in a costume, kids are excited and ready for some fun. Before going out, however, it is important to keep in mind a few safety tips that will help keep everyone out of potential danger. Reinforcing safety guidelines prior to heading out in the neighborhood after dark can help prevent vulnerable situations from arising.

Here are just a few of the recommendations we have for Halloween night:

  • Travel in Pairs
When people see a group of people or two friends attached at this hip, they can be sure that they will stay that way for the entire evening. It is important to stay with a group or another person because they have someone looking out for their well-being at all times.
  • Stay Aware of Surroundings
Looking around and identifying suspicious individuals or objects can mean the
difference between a good and bad situation. When people can observe all the nearby surroundings, they are able to anticipate and/or avoid situations that can occur. For instance, paying attention to suspicious vehicles parked down the street in the neighborhood can prompt someone to call the police immediately. Or, eyeballing a nearby exit in a crowded house party can alleviate the need to find one upon leaving later.
  • Have Emergency Numbers on Speed Dial
Another way for everyone to stay safe on Halloween is to keep emergency numbers on speed dial. This prevents one from needing to dial numbers in any frantic situation. It is also a good idea to hold onto phones while walking to cars. Doing so will give quick access to a call or text if anything were to occur at that moment.
  • Stay in Well-Lit Areas
With Halloween, most events will likely happen in the evening. Trick-or-treating with the kids or hanging out at a party will definitely be during the evening hours where it is dark and riskier. Parking vehicles under bright lights or staying in well-lit neighborhoods will help to reduce the chance for a dangerous circumstance.

On October 20th, Pedro’s Judo Center in Wakefield, Massachusetts will host a FREE ‘Bring a Buddy’ judo class followed by a brief Halloween Safety Seminar. The class will be open to everyone and run from 10 AM -11AM with judo, fun, safety tips, and candy!
