Pedro’s Judo Center Dominates 2018 Bay State Games
An Outstanding Performance!
Pedro’s Judo Center program director and coach Riley McIlwain led 31 athletes of Wakefield, MA on Sunday, July 15th in the Bay State Games held at UMASS Boston. The competition organizes annual Bay State Summer and Winter Games attracting over 7,000 athletes from more than 30 different sports in the state of Massachusetts. This year’s Bay State Summer Games hosted around 130 judo competitors.
Pedro’s Judo Center took home 5 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals. Additionally, 8 athletes finished in 4th place giving Pedro’s Judo Center a total of 66 points earned overall at the tournament. Coach Riley McIlwain commented on the dojo’s overall performance, “Our team right now is focusing on developing on the grassroots level. Our team demonstrated their abilities to handle their emotions and compete the very best they could. That, to me, is worth more than gold medals. It is vital that our kids can look their opponent in the eye after a win, lose, or draw while shaking their hand to express ‘good match’. I am so proud of how our team performed and how much they enjoyed the experience.”
